How to Find The Best Treatment for Glaucoma?

Glaucoma can be an unfortunate eye problem that mainly hits a person in his elderly years. But at the same time, there is world class glaucoma treatment available in the world these days and it doesn’t take a lot of time for a person to look for good glaucoma specialists and get the glaucoma treatment done.

What is Glaucoma?

Glaucoma is the loss of eye sight where the optic nerves of the eyes gets damaged resulting in the loss. The vision can be gone for an extended period of time and there are no other symptoms for the disease. Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness in the world. It is also true that although the medical sciences have improved so much in all domains, no such things can be said about the glaucoma treatment. Although there are treatments available, none of them will be able to give you back the quality of the vision that you enjoyed and experienced before.

If however the presence of glaucoma is detected in its early stages, it can be stopped from progressing further with medication and also in some cases, surgical procedures.

Types of Glaucoma

The glaucoma can be divided into two types. They are the closed angle and the open angled glaucoma. While the most common form of glaucoma is the open angle glaucoma, it is the built up of the fluid that causes intra ocular pressure that leads to the optic nerve damage and an impaired vision in the process.

Open Angled Glaucoma

The fluid builds up around the eyes because the effectiveness of the filtration areas of the eyes gets reduced. The filtration area is also known as the trabecular network. In case of the common open angle glaucoma, one of the first symptoms that you can feel is the impaired or reduced vision. Since there is no apparent symptom and glaucoma is a slow progressing disease, it can often result in severe loss of vision even before the disease is diagnosed. Thus it is needless to mention that it is a wise idea to visit glaucoma specialists for regular eye checkups at specific intervals.

Closed Angled Glaucoma

Closed angle glaucoma on the other hand often happens very suddenly. The effects can either be agonizing or just uncomfortable. The characteristics of this type of glaucoma are usually very painful since there is a rapid accumulation of the liquid in the eye that creates intra ocular pressure almost quickly. There can also be symptoms like severe headaches, eye pain, blurred vision, vomiting, nausea, rainbow around the lights etc.
